Whosoever Gospel Mission

Sharing God's Love Since 1892

July 2010 Newsletter

Dear Friend of the Mission,

Just today, July 9th, I was in back of the Mission on Stafford Street and a late model SUV drove up and stopped.  The man in the car smiled and said, “You may not remember me, but I was at the Mission a long time ago.”  He looked familiar, and I asked him to remind me of his name.  After he told me that his name is Joseph, he thanked me and then said these powerful words, “You saved my life.”  I was struck by the simplicity but power of these words.  I thanked Joseph and gently reminded him that the Lord is really the one that saved his life.  He acknowledged this truth even as he again thanked me.  As Joseph drove off, on the back of his car was the Christian symbol of a fish with the word Jesus written inside of the fish symbol.   My heart was wonderfully warmed and touched by Joseph’s kind words, and also by God’s amazing providence in arranging this seemingly serendipitous meeting between Joseph and me.  When we checked the Mission’s client database, our records indicate that Joseph has been out of the Mission for over ten years.  Although he did not graduate from our New Life Program, God obviously used the Mission to help him and to “save his life” in Joseph’s own words.

Your kind and generous support does impact in powerful ways the broken and hurting homeless men who come to the Mission.  While we give God the credit for changing and saving lives, yet we recognize and are humbled by the truth that the Lord uses you and me to be His hands of mercy and love.  Thank you for making a difference in the lives of men like Joseph.

In our most recent mailing, we enclosed another powerful testimony as the second page of this update.  Michael Sellars is currently enrolled in our New Life Program and is working hard to achieve his GED.  I think you’ll be blessed and encouraged by Michael’s testimony.  You can read his story in the “Real Stories” section of our website.

Thanks for touching and changing the lives of homeless men like Joseph and Michael through your gifts.  Much good is abounding through your kind and generous support!

Working together with you,

Robert A. Emberger, D.Min.
Executive Director
