Dear Friend of the Mission,
One of the things I like most about the Whosoever Gospel Mission is that more than any other ministry I know, our ministry is thoroughly holistic and comprehensive. We focus in very practical ways on the well-being and health of the whole person – a man’s soul and his body, loving God and loving others, encouraging our men to enjoy a personal relationship with the Lord and helping our men get a good place to live, laying up treasure in heaven and opening up a bank account on earth, going to church and going to work, praying to God and speaking kind words to one another, feeding our men spiritually and feeding our men physically, reading the Bible and doing math homework. During the course of a day, depending on his schedule, one of our men may enjoy a chapel service, a Bible study, good food at mealtimes, counseling, tutoring, academic classes, life skills training, a practical class on how to get a job and keep it, a class on how to use a computer, an Overcomers drug and alcohol support group, a decision making class, recreational opportunities and a workforce development job responsibility.
Thank you for your kind and generous support which makes our life-changing and restorative ministry possible. Your support is never a handout to our men, but rather it is a hand-up. Recently the Philadelphia Inquirer published a report that stated that Philadelphia unfortunately ranks as #1 among the most populous cities in the U.S. with the highest rate of deep poverty – 12.9% of the population. Deep poverty is defined as being so poor that it is virtually impossible to improve your life situation without someone helping you. The homeless, destitute men who come to the Mission are mired in deep poverty. They desperately need help. The Whosoever Gospel Mission’s holistic New Life Program provides this critical help.
2013 has been a tough year financially for the Mission. January and February were challenging months resulting in a significant deficit. In March, in response to our request for help because I was out of action as a result of my unexpected open heart surgery, your giving was exceptional and helped to whittle down our deficit. Please continue to pray for us. Your support makes a difference and is a life-changing investment in the lives of our men.
Take care. May God bless you abundantly and fill you with His peace, hope and joy.
Working together with you,
Robert A. Emberger, D.Min.
