Whosoever Gospel Mission

Sharing God's Love Since 1892

From the Director ~ Christmas 2012

Executive Director Bob Emberger with wife Marcia, daughter Jaime, daughter Jen and son-in-law Bryan at the Mission’s Thanksgiving feast.

Dear Friend of the Mission,

All of the 55 homeless men living at the Whosoever Gospel Mission have dealt with heavy duty life and death issues that many of us cannot even imagine.  The holidays are especially rough for our men – one man just today shared with me that several years ago on the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving, he and his girlfriend were in a serious car accident in which she died and he ended up clinging to life in a coma.  For him, Thanksgiving and Christmas are filled with crushing, painful memories that can easily drive him to anger, despair and drink.  Other men in our New Life Program remember happier times when they were home for the holidays with friends and loved ones, and now they are homeless, lonely, and sad, struggling to survive.

Because of your support, we are able to come alongside our men and walk with them, helping to bear their crushing burdens.  Most importantly of all, we are able to point them to Jesus, someone who personally knows sorrow and grief, who can carry the heaviest of their burdens and give them rest for their souls and the promise of a better tomorrow.  Jesus is also the great joy-giver, He gives us joy even in the midst of our hurts and tears.  This is what Christmas is all about.  In this broken world filled with suffering and woe, there is good news, “Joy to the world, the Lord is come!”  As we close out 2012, please consider making a special gift to the Mission so that every day at the Mission can be filled with the joy and hope of Christmas.  Here are a few ways you can help:

  1. A special year-end sacrificial gift.  The amount is not as important as the prayers and compassion that come with the gift.  God can use your gift to change a life.
  2. If God has especially prospered you this past year, please pray and consider sending a large gift to the Mission.  Large gifts take big bites out of our budgeted expenses,  strengthen our services, and are a major investment in the lives of our men.
  3. A gift of appreciated stock.  A gift of appreciated stock is always a great help and can also provide you with some excellent tax benefits.  We can arrange for an electronic transfer of your stock.  If you would like to do this, please call me at 215 438 3094 (ext 102).

Thank you for investing in the lives of our men this holiday season – to give them hope and joy! May you and your loved ones have a wonderful Christmas and a New Year filled with joy.

With warmth and friendship,

Robert A. Emberger, D.Min.
