Dear Friend of the Mission,
It has been a busy summer at the Mission. Our beds are full every day, our waiting list is long, youth groups have volunteered at the Mission from all over the country (Arkansas, Washington, Vermont, New York, Tennessee, California, Oregon, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland to name a few places), and all of the daily activities of the Mission continue to take place without interruption. With the extremely hot temperatures, our men are especially glad for the air conditioning which we added to our rebuilt dormitory after the catastrophic arson fire six years ago. As the handout entitled “A Place Called Home” that we included in our latest mailing indicates, we work hard to make the Mission a comfortable and welcoming home for our men. Our residents testify that we truly are a safe haven, an oasis from the harsh and hard streets of Philadelphia. Thank you for your generous support which helps to make us a home and not an institution. As we quickly approach the end of our fiscal year on September 30, 2012, I’d like to remind you of a few important things:
- Please set aside now Saturday, October 6th, starting at 6:45 p.m. for our annual banquet at Williamson Banquet Hall in Horsham, PA. We are looking forward to a great night of good food and celebration as we see and hear firsthand what the Lord is doing in the lives of our men. Please tell your friends, family and church about the banquet. Our banquet is a great way to introduce folks to the Mission. An invitation will soon be mailed with all of the details.
- Even though we have our own Mission garden, we can always use fresh vegetables from your garden. If you have any extra home-grown vegetables, please drop them off at the Mission (we unfortunately are not able to pick up vegetables from your house).
- Please pray that we will end our fiscal year on September 30th in good shape. As of now, it looks like we will end the year with a deficit. When all is said and done, your financial support is always an investment in the lives of our men.
Thanks for standing with our men and giving them a hand-up, and not just a hand-out.
Your partner in helping the homeless,
Robert A. Emberger, D.Min.
Executive Director
One response to “From the Director ~ August 2012”
I would like to meet with Dr. Emberger, if possible. I am a representative of Macedonia Mission, 1340 W. Parrish St., Rev. John Canty, director. Purpose for the visit: Macedonia Mission is looking for two or three men to enter a program of discipleship . We are looking for recommendations from local ministries for men who are successful in your program and are about to complete your program. Tuesdays or Thursdays would be best for my schedule, but if another day would be better I would be open to that.
Respectfully, Havard Pannebaker
